Children with autism – retrospective evaluation of the benefits of intervention project

Duration 18 months.

Biomedical intervention and outcome has been, to date, on a child-by-child basis. Our charity aims to reach yet more children and to obtain broader recognition of the benefits of interventions. This can only be achieved with a concrete analysis of the benefits of interventions to date. We have with the help of our volunteer team generated a database comprising all records for the children treated at ATT (around 400 children). The data base contains extensive details of developmental, behavioural and biochemical parameters assessed prior, during and after the intervention. The data base is now completed and has been thoroughly checked several times.

A second stage of study will now begin with the analysis of parameters of developmental history, clinical and behavioural presentation (in total 140 parameters) in relation to the biomedical markers entered (200 markers). In a third stage of analysis we aim to determine whether and to what extent different types of interventions are related with behavioural improvement.

Status: Phase II beginning, expected to be completed end of March 2010.
