GF/CF Snacks
On this picture you can see: Potato crisps, Kassava crisps, vegetable crisps (carrots, parsnips and beetroot), a mixture of nuts and seeds, GF savoury crackers and fruits.
In addition to those, you can propose your child to have: Raw slices vegetables dipped into humus, Peanut (or almond or cashew nut) butter onto a GF toast or GF pancake, GF biscuits, Avocado, a tomato, a bowl of soup, fruit puree or smoothie, raw slices carrots dipped into mayonnaise, GF chicken pate (recipe soon to be added here) onto GF toast, Bombay mix, Chick pears noodles... I am certain your child will guide you further to find more snack food still! Caution: Remember that each child will have different food preferences and need. Ideally your dietician will advice you on how to introduce the foods that are right for him or her. Remember also that providing snaky food too often might prevent your child to eat a proper meal. The right balance needs to be define to insure that your child will have a good diet throughout the day, every day. Please seek further advice from your dietician.
How to prepare a mayonnaise: Ideally, you want to cook food at home rather than buying already made products that often contain too many preservatives. To make a mayonnaise is very easy. You can get the sibling of your ASD child to help you, it’s fun and soon perhaps your special child can join in -excellent motor exercise!
1. Take the yolk of an egg and mix it with one tea spoon of mustard. 2. Add a very small amount of oil (like 1 tsp at first- preferably grape seed oil- good taste and good Omega 3/6 balance). Mix well and fast with the tea spoon. When it has the consistency of a jelly, add one more tsp of oil, repeat like this, very slowly until you have added 5 tsp of oil individually. 3. At this stage you can add the oil faster; a thin filet of oil can be added continuously whilst you keep mixing with the spoon as fast as possible. Stop when you have sufficient amount of mayonnaise. Ideally use within 1-2 days (uncooked egg, keep in fridge). 4. Suggestions: You can add several cloves of crushed garlic (Ayoli - Mediterranean dish), fresh ginger, tarragon, or basil to the mayonnaise for variation. |
